Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Identify patients at increased risk for susceptibility and progression of osteoarthritis to initiate prevention strategies
  2. Perform differential diagnosis of acute monoarticular and polyarticular arthritis in order to improve patient outcomes, both short-term and long-term
  3. Identify patients with suspected RA during the early inflammatory stages in order to appropriately refer them to a rheumatologist
  4. Refer patients with a clinical suspicion of RA to a rheumatologist to appropriately initiate treatment with DMARDs or biologic agents
  5. Identify inflammatory back pain and other clinical features of ankylosing spondylitis to reduce debilitating effects of this disease

    Musculoskeletal disorders are highly prevalent in the United States and are associated with significant morbidity and healthcare utilization. The prevalence increases with age, and as the population as a whole ages, the prevalence of these disorders and associated healthcare utilization will rise dramatically.
